This, the heart of the parliamentary process, is relatively unassertive from the outside. Walking round it or looking down on it from a distance, you do not find that it shouts its importance. But inside, the debating chamber is a marvellous place, its virtues apparent even now before the furniture is installed. Its timber-trussed interior roofscape and its handling of natural light is masterly. And it too is connected to the landscape. Big windows at the rear of the chamber look right across to the Crags. While the glazing on the interior side, looking out onto an internal courtyard, boasts motifs that look very like whisky bottles to me.
