As you walk in through the foyer, a four storey canyon emerges, running up between the angled boxes of the two main cinemas, perched high above. This is an impressive space. The cinema boxes are allowed to project out through the glass of the rear façade. Once the derelict buildings opposite have been cleared, and another of those nice little urban squares is made, projections onto the white walls of the cinemas will be seen from outside. Materials are tough and simple, even crude. Great architecture it isn't, but it's a vigorous low-budget stab at a new kind of arts building.
