You generally know when you're walking into an art gallery, and when you're walking into a cinema. They're different. Even when it's an art-house cinema, even when it's a gallery showing video art in a darkened room with seats, even in those few places that do both, such as the ICA in London. Yes, even when the two cultures make knowing references to each other. So what are we to make of a shiny new building in Liverpool that offers you moving images of all kinds, gives everything an equal art value, and still sells popcorn?
